MTSS and Academic Supports

K-8:  Our district utilizes a system for student support called MTSS.  MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) strives to identify and support students that need extra help academically or social-emotionally.  We use FastBridge benchmark data three times a year to screen our students against national averages to help us identify students that might be struggling academically.  Students that score in the bottom 25% are identified for intervention and support.  These interventions are given through their regular teachers as well as by our interventionist teachers.  Through weekly progress monitoring we can gauge if the interventions being given are helping the students grow academically.  The goal is to grow the student’s skills to the point where intervention is no longer needed.

K-8:  In addition to MTSS support for our students there is an afterschool program that runs for most of the school year in each building.  Students are identified for potential involvement in the program based on their scores and performance on academic work.  The afterschool program can help with homework completion and reinforcing the learning that happened in the classroom.

5-8:  Northbrook Middle School offers a before school program for homework help and completion.  Students that are struggling may drop-in and get help as needed to ensure quality work and overall completion.
