Social Studies
K-1: Our kindergarten and first grade utilize news resources, educational magazines, and important events to learn about the history and importance of the world around them and their community. There is a strong crossover between historical learning and knowledge in social studies with the Amplify CKLA reading curriculum.
2-5: Our second through fifth grade classrooms utilize a series by SAVVAS called “MyWorld”. In second grade we start to focus on expanding community and world understanding with geography concepts as well as some basic economics and this continues into third grade. In fourth grade students learn about the five regions of the United States and in fifth grade they start to learn about early migrations to the US as well as studenting people and events that shaped our nation.
6-8 : Our sixth through eighth grade classrooms utilize different series from National Geographic. In sixth grade the students study world history from its earliest beginnings up to more modern times. In seventh and eighth grade the students look at a more detailed examination of American history culminating in the US Constitution test before they move on to high school.
