Last night, the Northbrook and Holy Cross 8th grade girls' and boys' basketball teams participated in the Crosstown Classic. The girls walked away with the win! Way to go Lady Spartans! The boys' played a great game but fell short in the end. The night allowed both schools to come together for a night of basketball and fun for a great cause. Between the two schools, 439 pounds of food items were collected and donated to the food pantry. Thank you to everyone that participated and supported our community!

District Finances

One of the goals here at Mendota #289 is financial stability for the organization. Stable finances lead to better planning and better outcomes for our students. At the end of the last fiscal year (FY’25), we had $9.1M in the bank. To put this in a historical context, we ended FY’21 with $8.6M in reserves.
In this four-year period, we have spent millions of dollars on facility improvements such as secure building and classroom entrances, solar projects and new roofs, and classroom remodels for more effective learning and work environments. We have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on new curricular materials for English Language Arts and Math. New positions have been added to better support the social/emotional needs and language acquisition needs of our students. If you include a new reading / Math interventionist, Mentors, and after-school academic program, it is wonderful that all of these things have been implemented while maintaining a constant financial reserve.
Looking forward, we are projecting a total reserve of $7.1M at the end of FY’26 and back up over $8M by the end of FY’27.

Please reach out with any questions that you may have by dropping me a note at bcox@m289.org.

Be safe. Be well.
