Students in Mr. Zoelzer's 8th grade class had the opportunity to dissect frogs in science today! Students explored and identified the internal structure and function of the frog's organs. Students were assigned roles in the dissection process and worked together with their teams to complete tasks throughout the activity. Great job, 8th graders!

The Spartan Art Club made these adorable gingerbread plushie ornaments to hang on the tree here at Northbrook Middle School! Art club members cut out their own gingerbread men-felt patterns. Next, they sewed the gingerbread men together using a blanket stitch and stuffed them with Poly-fil to make them plush. Finally, students added bows, eyes, piped frosting lines, etc. out of additional colored felt. Happy holidays from the Spartan Art Club!

Northbrook Spirit Week has begun! Monday's theme is "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!" Students are encouraged to wear their favorite Christmas/Holiday shirt!

Northbrook students had the honor of listening to Sergeant Stephen Dancey, a Vietnam War Veteran, speak at an assembly held on Monday afternoon. He shared his inspirational life story of service and sacrifice. We honor him and all others that have served! Thank you, Sergeant Dancey, for taking the time to share your story with us! A special thank you to Ms. Henkel for her hardwork to make this event possible.

Lincoln students celebrated veterans yesterday! They created honor walls to pay tribute to their friends and family members who have served. Students also attended the Mendota Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Park that was presented by the Mendota VFW Post 4079, the Veterans Memorial Squad, and the Mendota American Legion Post 540. Thank you to all that have served!

Northbrook Cheerleaders are hosting a cheer clinic for any 5th or 6th grade student that is interested. There will be a sign up sheet posted at school all next week and students can pick up information sheets in the main office.

Monday is Veterans Day! Be sure to wear your red, white, and blue or camouflage!

Northbrook students are invited to participate in the Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on Thursday, November 14th. Six year old Ruby Bridges stepped into the history books on November 14, 1960 when she integrated William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans, becoming a national icon for the civil rights movement. Today her story continues to inspire the next generation of leaders by encouraging students to make positive changes in their communities and schools. Throughout the walk, Mr. Schepper’s and Miss Henkel’s Enrichment Rti groups will be sharing their work to improve the sidewalks for Mendota. The event will bring greater awareness that accessibility is an issue of equity. Students must sign up no later than Monday, Nov. 11th, at the end of the school day.
