Mendota #289 Board of Education currently has vacant seats on the Board of Education. Please contact School Board President, Theresa Komitas (tkomitas@m289.org or 815-739-6541) if you are interested in being considered for appointment to a vacant seat that runs through the spring of 2027. There is a brief questionnaire to be completed by prospective Board members. There are two open seats: one seat requires the member to live in Mendota Township, the other requires the member to not live in Mendota Township. The deadline for submission of application is Friday, May 9, 2025. Applicants may be asked to interview with the Board of Education. The current five Board members will vote to fill the vacant seats. Please contact the District Office (815) 539- 7631 with additional questions.

Northbrook Middle School's Guidance Counselor Megan Gatza was recently awarded the 40 under 40 Award by the Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce. This honor is awarded to individuals under the age of 40 that have shown exceptional leadership and a drive to make a positive impact within the community. Yesterday State Representative Bradley Fritts (R-Dixon) welcomed three pages from Northbrook Middle School to Springfield.
Giana Godina, Lumen Setchell, and Mia Arteaga were all honored on the House floor and were able to experience the life and duties of a state Representative. They also met several other Representatives, including the House Republican Leader, Representative Tony M. McCombie.
